National Time Standards
|
We have the following information concerning national time standards for 2009-10 and beyond:
- Standards for Junior National Short and Long Course Championships and Short Course National Championships are the same as in 2008-09. The Summer National Championship will use the U.S. Open time standards including 18&U standards and bonus time standards. Times achieved since July 1, 2009 up to the meet entry due date will be accepted for the summer meets (including times swum in technical suits). There will be no U.S. Open again until 2012.
- Standards for 2012 Olympic Trials will be set in the fall of 2010, allowing for a year of data for times swum in non-technical suits to be reviewed and analyzed.

(also known as Q times)
Following are the meet entry time standards for 2010 Short Course Far Westerns in April and Long Course Far Westerns in late July:
Far Westerns meet entry time standards are issued in three formats: short course yards, short course meters, and long course meters. This single set of standards is used for entries for both short course and long course Far Westerns. Once a swimmer has a Far Westerns qualifying time in any course, he or she may use that time to enter either Far Westerns meet. Accordingly, time conversions are not required or allowed.
Note: there are no changes to Far Westerns times for 2010.

2010 Pacific Swimming Age Group Time Standards Summary
|
There are no changes to Pacific Swimming's age group time standards (B, A, Junior Olympic, Far Western, and PRT) for 2010.
For those visiting from other LSCs, please note that Pacific Swimming no longer uses the USA Swimming National Age Group Motivational times for its B and A meet entry time standards. Instead, Pacific uses its own B and A standards, which are frequently abbreviated in meet information sheets as PC-B and PC-A. These are significantly different from USA Swimming's National Motivational B and A times which may be used as meet entry time standards in other LSCs.
Note that in Pacific, a C time for a given event is any time slower than the B time standard.

These are the Western Zone's own minimum qualifying time standards for the 2010 Western Zone meet. Pacific may develop, and use, faster time standards as a basis for selection of its 2010 Western Zone and North American Challenge Cup teams. These time standards will be posted when they are available.

Conversions Between Short Course and Long Course Times
|
|
Pacific Swimming no longer requires that entry times be converted between long course and short course. For meets that require that entry times be proved (such as JOs, Far Westerns, and certain meets in the senior program), meet entry time standards will be provided in both short course and long course, and you may enter a qualifying time achieved in either course.
However, it is important to note that Pacific's Rules and Regulations still specify that when you have achieved a specific class level (for example, B or A) in an event in one course, you are considered to be qualified at that same level in all courses. Accordingly, you must always enter a time which maintains the class for which you've qualified in an event.
For example, if you've achieved an A time in an event short course but have never swum the event or have never achieved at this level in the event long course, you must enter at least a minimum long course A time when you enter the event in a long course meet.
