Officials needed for Santa Clara International Grand Prix
--
Stroke and turn officials are still needed for the May 31-June 3 Santa
Clara International Grand Prix. Officials wishing to work this year's meet need to have their applications emailed to Brian Malick by Friday, May 25, in order to be on the officials entry and parking list.

Sectional time standards updated
--
Senior swimmers and coaches, be aware that the time standards for Sectionals have been revised. The revised standards will be in effect for the upcoming July Sectional meet. Follow this link for the revised Sectional standards.

Athlete application posted for Western Zones
--
The athlete application for Western Zones is now available. The meet will take place this year in Grand Junction, Colorado, from August 7-12. Follow this link for a copy of the Western Zone athlete application. Deadline for submitting the athlete application is May 29.
Important correction: Please note that an earlier version of the Western Zone application contained an incorrect ZIP code in the address for the application to be mailed to. Applications should be mailed to P.O. Box 2517, Sebastopol CA 95473.

Athlete application now available for NACC
--
The athlete application for the North American Challenge Cup is now available. The meet will take place this year in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, from August 2-4. Follow this link for a copy of the NACC athlete application form. Deadline for submitting the athlete application to the address in the form is May 29. Athletes chosen for the team will be notified in early June.
This year, Pacific is planning to take a team of up to 32 13- to 18-year-olds to the NACC, plus up to four swimmers with disabilities.

2011-12 Scholastic All-America program
--
USA Swimming has announced details of its 2011-12 Scholastic All-America program. The team is made up of high school student-athletes who have a grade point average of 3.5 or higher and who have achieved the required time standard in a single event.
To be eligible for this recognition, swimmers must have completed 10th, 11th or 12th grade and must be a USA Swimming member athlete. Eligible times must be swum between July 1, 2011 and June 30, 2012.
Applications will be available online on the USA Swimming website beginning June 1, and must be completed by August 15.

New procedure and forms for approved and observed meets

New forms and procedures for approved and observed meets are now available and can be found by following this link. Please use the appropriate new forms and follow the procedure posted to request observed meet status for upcoming high school league championship meets.

Coach certification classes
--
Osprey Aquatics is hosting coach certification classes on Saturday, May 19. Classes will be offered as follows: CPR, 9:00-11:30am; First aid, 12 noon-2:00pm; Coaches Safety Training, 2:30-6:00pm. The classes will be held at Willow Glen Middle School, 2105 Cottle Avenue, San Jose. Contact rho@hydroinstitute.org for more information.

Santa Clara Grand Prix entries closed; meet cap reached
--
The Santa Clara Grand Prix has reached its participant cap and entries have been closed. Exceptions can only be made for athletes that rank in the top 50 in the final 2011 LCM event World Rankings.
Coaches with an athlete that meets this criterion should contact Josh Fowler at USA Swimming or Stella Ezrre at Santa Clara Swim Club.

New interpretation of breaststroke rule issued
--
On March 7 of this year, FINA issued an interpretation of the breaststroke rule covering the initiation of the arm pull. This interpretation also applies to correctly judging the timing of the single butterfly kick which may follow initiation of the arm pull. Follow this link for the complete interpretation.
