April 5, 2023 - 2023 Western Zones SENIOR Meet Format Change
2023 Western Zone Senior Championships
EVENT FORMAT UPDATES
The Western Zone Senior Championship Committee has carefully reviewed the responses received from the 2022 WZSR Championship coaches survey regarding the meet event format & timeline management, and has implemented the following changes for the 2023 event:
Event Format UPDATES
1. The meet will be contested over five full days (see order of events, below)
2. An additional heat of 8 has been added to all Finals events:
a. 200M & shorter - Top 48 (6 heats – previously only 5 heats)
b. 400M & longer - Top 40 (5 heats – previously only 4 heats)
3. Scoring will be to 24 places (previously only Top 16 were scored)
4. Top 16 Relays ONLY at night – all others in AM sessions (PM teams can still choose to swim AM)
5. Addition of 200 Medley Relay on Day One, and 200 Free Relay on Day Three

2023 Qualifying Time Standards remain the same as 2022
- 2021-24 USA Swimming National Age Group Motivational Times * 15 – 16 “AA”
- Bonus Times also remain the same
2023 De-Qualification Time Standards remain the same:
- 2023 USA Swimming Speedo Summer Junior National Championships
- De-qual is by event including relay leg
2023 Qualifying Time Period
- Aligned with 2023 USA Swimming Speedo Summer Junior National Championships:
- June 1, 2022 – close of entries, July 2023
- Corrects previous issues where athletes were disqualified from swimming individual events at both meets
