Don was a beloved and highly respected figure in the swimming community, with a coaching career that spanned more than five decades. He was inducted into the American Swimming Coaches Association (ASCA) Hall of Fame and received numerous honors throughout his career, reflecting both his competitive success and his impact on generations of swimmers and coaches. Many of his former athletes and colleagues credit him not only for their achievements in swimming, but also for the life lessons he instilled.
Within Pacific Swimming, Don was a familiar presence on deck for decades. His dedication helped shape the region’s swimming culture, and his legacy will continue through the countless athletes, families, and coaches he inspired.
Known for his leadership with North Bay Aquatics, Don developed swimmers at every level — from beginners to national-level athletes — while building a program rooted in discipline, character, and teamwork. His influence extended far beyond results in the pool; he was known for his mentorship, humor, and unwavering commitment to helping young people grow.
We extend our deepest condolences to Don’s family, friends, swimmers, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. He will be greatly missed and fondly remembered.
